Can I appeal my mark/ grade?

Guidance on appealing a grade

You can only appeal a grade if you can demonstrate, with evidence, that the University have not applied one of their policies correctly, such as the marking scheme or an assessment policy. You can view the University's assessment policies and regulations online here: https://www.shu.ac.uk/myhallam/university-life/university-rules-and-regulations/assessment-policies-and-regulations

So, for example, you can appeal against a mark if you can demonstrate that some of your work wasn't considered. Or, as another example, if your work was marked according to the module criteria for a previous academic year. You cannot appeal against a grade or mark just because you disagree with it or feel it is unfair, and you cannot appeal against academic judgement – you will need to evidence what has gone wrong.

As a first step, we recommend that you contact the marker to ask for additional feedback or clarity on your mark. They will be able to give you further explanation of why this decision has been made.

You can find more information on appeals on the university website: https://www.shu.ac.uk/myhallam/university-life/university-rules-and-regulations/appeals-and-complaints/appeals and on the Student's Union website: https://www.hallamstudentsunion.com/support/academic/article/6013/Appeals/

If you wish to appeal your grade, we strongly encourage you to speak to The Students' Union Advice Centre who offer independent advice and can support you through the process. You can contact the team through the Ask Us form which can be accessed here: https://www.hallamstudentsunion.com/ask/
