What is varsity?

Hallam Varsity is an annual multi-sport competition between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield. It takes place each spring and features dozens of sports, including football, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics, and ice hockey.

Student teams from both universities compete across several days, earning points for each victory. At the end of the event, the university with the most points is crowned the Varsity champion and awarded the trophy.

Hallam Varsity is one of the largest university sporting rivalries in the UK and attracts large crowds of students and supporters. Many events are held at sports venues around Sheffield, with the ice hockey match often serving as the highlight due to its large attendance and energetic atmosphere.
